Summary/Abstract: On July 16, 1945, the first test nuclear explosion, codenamedTrinity, was successfully carried out in New Mexico, USA as partof the Manhattan Project, which was aimed at producing nuclearweapons. On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of this event,several dozen Nobel Prize laureates and leading nuclear expertsgathered at the University of Chicago from July 14 to 16, 2025to assess the possibilities of averting nuclear war. At the end ofthe meeting, the participants approved a declaration calling onall nuclear and non-nuclear states to take specific measures toachieve this goal.The main body of the refletion (not counting the introduction andthe conclusions) deals mainly with the aforementioned calIs andprovides brief information on the situations and related securityrisks in specific security areas. Special attention is paid to the callsaddressed to Russia and the US, which possess approximately 90%of all nuclear weapons, as well as those addressed to China. Thereason for this is mainly China’s increasing of the number of itsnuclear weapons and the low transparency in the field of nuclearweapons.
