Summary/Abstract: During the last few years, all the countries of Eastern and Southeastern Europe have either joined, or are on the threshold of joining the Euro-Atlantic structures and institutions. The historic enlargement of the European Union is making profound changes to the European political map. These changes not only form the framework for future stability and security, but also promote the rule of law, human rights and socio-economic prosperity in Europe. To a large extent, this concerns the belief in the same values, the same vision of a just society and basic democratic principles.
