Summary/Abstract: In the last months of 2004, Serbia and Montenegro found themselves, like other countries of the Region, in front of the open doors of the European Union. The right path leads to them - the European Partnership - a clear plan and time frame for fulfilling the necessary conditions. In a political, technical, and even economic sense, all other countries around us have either met the necessary conditions, or have a set plan and pace to meet them. What happened in 2004 that puts the Western Balkans region in a new position? What possibilities of getting closer to the European Union are opening up and what do they mean?
