Summary/Abstract: In 1991, Hungary was the first country to open the embassy in Kyiv. Such establishment of diplomatic relations was an indication of the friendly intentions of neighbouring country which created a lot of perspectives for the future economic and political cooperation. After Hungary joined the NATO (1999) and the EU (2004) and when Ukraine outlined Euro-Atlantic integration as the most important vector of its foreign policy, the political and economic partnership between countries deepened. Hungary supported the EU Association Agreement with Ukraine, promoted Ukrainian transatlantic efforts and was indeed a strong ally of Ukraine in the field of security, defence and other and military aspects, in the energy sphere, trade, etc. With the beginning of the Russian aggression in Ukraine, the Hungarian government joined the EU sanctions against the Russian Federation and provided Ukraine with its support and assistance in the humanitarian sphere.
