Summary/Abstract: The article examines geographical names in selected Polish fantasy novels. The analysis of such names should take into consideration the markers of fantasy convention. The onomastics of some novels, for instance A. Sapkowski’s texts, proves that this literature is non-mimetic. Still, a considerable number of Polish fantasy texts contain proper names whose origin is untypical of fantasy convention. They are connected with realistic onomastics style and serve pragmatic functions in the presented world that consists of magical and realistic planes (for example stories by A. Ziemiański, A. Pilipiuk, D Wieczorek). Geographical names can also perform grotesque, expressive and intertextual functions in humorous fantasy (for instance in J. Piekara and M. Wolski).
