Summary/Abstract: The paper aims at marking and answering a question in regard to directions in contemporary social gerontology developments. The paper’s goal is to present and circumstantiate a broader necessity to incorporate a humanistic lens in analyses, studies as well as practical actions undertaking matters and challenges of ageing individuals, both in families and in societies. In order to achieve the goal, I point to social gerontology’s evolution, its idiosyncrasy and status as a scientific discipline. In further parts I discuss in detail two humanistic perspectives: the critical and the feminist one. The paper concludes with giving full consideration to emancipatory transition in social gerontology full.
