Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to analyse media images of social representations in television discourses (the examples are two different information stations: Superstacja and Telewizja Republika). Television discourses contain and shape various images of social reality, refer to different representations, also regarding the different ideas about the function of the medium: as a window, mirror and watchdog on the one hand (Superstacja), on the other (TV Republika) — as teacher, guide, signpost. The article consists of three parts: the first presents the theory of social representations, the second part refer to essence of media images of social representations in relation to the discursive image of the world, the third part analyses the mechanisms of anchoring and objectification as ways to construct media discourses, as well as shape images of objects of reality and the underlying them social representations.
