Summary/Abstract: The following article is an attempt at a generic categorization of the gossip, a genre of the oral provenance, more and more readily utilized in the mass media. The comparative analysis of two kinds of gossip — the oral version as well as the internet version — not only allows to grasp the differences between the two but also makes it possible to trace the interactions between the compared forms.
