Summary/Abstract: The text “Between modernism and postmodernism – the contemporary perspective of didactics of art” presents current issues involved in aesthetic upbringing, at the moment included into the broader category of cultural education, in the contexts of modernism and postmodernism. Taking tradition into consideration, particularly the avant-garde and new artistic phenomena, the author analyses the didactic potential and hazards of both these paradigms in order to outline a contemporary didactic model which would include the current theoretical thought from the areas of contemporary culture, history and methodology of art and cultural education. She describes features of personality of a potential addressee (student-artist) of the age of postmodernity and the tasks which he faces, as well as a proposal for a didactic method suited to the new visual culture (simulated, non-material image) and the student’s condition (medial, polisensory and anthropologically perceived). She reflects over hazards and possibilities, challenges and yearnings concerning the contemporary perspective of the didactics of art, which constitute the continuation of the necessary consensus between modernism and postmodernism.
