Summary/Abstract: The concepts of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainable Development (SD) arise as separate and independent concepts. Today, their content, orientation and used tools are identical, both focusing on economic, environmental and social aspects in the business not only of business organizations but also of the public sector. The paper follows the evolution of CSR and SD ideas, the historical prerequisites for their emergence and differences in their initial interpretations are outlined. Then, their gradual convergence is presented as direction and content, making a comparative analysis of the most popular contemporary CSR and SD initiatives. It is supported by the thesis that today CSR is an essential element of the overall efforts to achieve sustainable development.
