Summary/Abstract: After the declaration of martial law in the Kingdom of Poland in 1861, the mayors of towns and cities were obliged to constantly notify the Russian authorities of all 'extraordinary events' that occurred in their subordinate territories. From that moment on, reports began to flow to the civil and military chiefs of the districts about various events, including patriotic demonstrations, religious processions, the display of flags with national emblems in churches. After the outbreak of the January Uprising, the reports also concerned, among other things, the marches of insurgent troops. The reports – so far not very often used by researchers – provides a lot of interesting information about the events of 1861–1864, including especially about the attitudes of the population towards the Uprising and the Russian authorities. The article discusses the content of the reports from the area of the southern part of the Kielce District in the Radom Governorate. Possible ways of making these sources available to a wide range of readers were also presented.
