Summary/Abstract: Hybrid warfare has amplified strategic competition in the maritime domain, particularly in areas characterized by geographical constraints and by factors conducive to the manifestation of this type of conflict. The literature from the main stream of knowledge broadly discusses the conceptual dimension of hybrid warfare in the maritime domain; however, it insufficiently examines the role of the presence of Standing Naval Forces in narrow seas, especially from a comparative perspective of different types of maritime environments. This article addresses this analytical deficit by examining the role of Standing Naval Forces in the context of hybrid warfare in a narrow sea. The research employs a qualitative, typological comparative analysis, relating the narrow sea to the semi-enclosed sea and the high seas. The results indicate that the geographical and operational specificities of the narrow sea amplify the effects of naval presence on hybrid manifestations, increasing the relevance of deterrence and of controlling the escalation of military actions conducted below the threshold of armed conflict. The contribution of the study consists in proposing a coherent analytical framework for the assessment of permanent naval presence in constrained maritime environments, with the inherent limitation of the exclusive use of information derived from open sources.
