Summary/Abstract: With the decline of the role of the global powers and the dispersion of power in international relations, the role of regional powers is growing. The article examines whether Turkey meets the criteria to be a regional power and asserts that the country is located between and participates in several regional security complexes (as per Barry Buzan), but it is difficult to argue there is possibility of Turkey being a regional hegemon in the Balkans, in the Middle East, or Central Asia due to its peripheral location and material limitations in relation to each of these regions.
