Summary/Abstract: This study examines how small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Albania are adopting cloud-based Information System Technology (IST) and the challenges they face during this process. As SMEs represent a significant part of the Albanian economy, their ability to integrate digital systems such as enterprise resource planning (ERP), customer relationship management (CRM), and accounting platforms is crucial for improving efficiency and competitiveness. To evaluate adoption trends, a questionnaire was distributed to managers and IT staff across different business sectors. The survey measured awareness, perceived usefulness, cost considerations, technological readiness, and employee skills in relation to IST implementation. Results show that SMEs increasingly recognize the benefits of cloud-based systems, including cost reduction, scalability, and operational efficiency. However, barriers such as cybersecurity risks, lack of technical expertise, and limited financial resources continue to hinder widespread adoption. The findings suggest that successful digital transformation requires stronger support through training programs, government policies, and collaboration with technology providers. By addressing these challenges, SMEs in Albania can enhance their competitiveness in both local and international markets.
