Summary/Abstract: Literary texts are the most successful source in the study of a foreign language. Literary texts enri vocabulary, facilitate the perception of Francophone culture develop linguisti and analytical skills and motivate students. Reading a literary text is not the same as reading a newspaper text, and literary reading requires specific skills and strategies that are not always transferable from the mother tongue to a foreign language. Literary texts offer students the place, time and opportunity to get involved in another language/culture of and to reshape their own identity, through interactions around this text. Being one of the foundations of teaching/learning foreign languages, the number of literary texts are limited in current French textbooks, a fact that needs to be revised.
