Summary/Abstract: What do the market and religion have in common? Can we find an anthropological bridge that allows us to relate symmetrically to humans in their dual role as religious beings on the one hand and as individuals actively engaged in a consumer society on the other? How do these two realities of the person interfere with each other and how can they coexist without altering each other's functions? If mutual influence does occur, which of the two prevails over the other and in what way? Are we dealing with a kind of transfer or, rather, something similar to an infection? How do we establish a correct diagnosis and, further, will we be able to find the right antidote? Is our discussion slipping into the realm of identity? What is the structure of identity's resistance and to what extent can identity become ambivalent? These are some of the guiding lines for what we hope will be the work you are about to read. It is a text woven with questions, answers, and challenges, an exercise in lucidity to avoid approximations and crude lamentations.
