Summary/Abstract: This study examines the relationship between perceived and actual swimming competencies among students at UNWE. For basic swimming skills and backstroke, a negative correlation was observed between self-assessment and actual performance, with the strongest effect in backstroke, likely due to easier breathing. For specific skills such as diving and underwater movement, positive correlations were found, indicating more accurate self-assessment. The findings highlight the need for methodological approaches to develop accurate self-perception in basic skills while ensuring water safety. Advanced skills are evaluated more precisely, allowing for optimization of training and instructional planning. The results provide guidance for improving swimming education and supporting safe movement in aquatic environments.
