Summary/Abstract: The thirtieth anniversary of Ivan Cankar’s passing in 1948 was commemorated in Sofia through the production of his play “The King of Betajnova”; particularly noteworthy is the fact that the translation was done by the great Bulgarian poetess Elisaveta Bagryana. The centenary of the writer’s passing gives us cause to systematically study the reception of his works in Bulgaria; in doing this, we will focus on the translations of his works, the theatrical contacts and the sociocultural context.
