Summary/Abstract: The “Faculty of Russian Language and Literature and Slavic Studies” of the University of Athens has been organizing annual competitions in Bulgarian Studies for its students on the lecturer in Bulgarian language, literature and culture’s intiative for the past seven years (since the academic year 2015/2016). These annual competitions are held with the assistance of the Ministry of Education and Science and the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria, the financial support of Eurobank, and in cooperation with the universities of Sofia, Veliko Tarnovo and Plovdiv. Also, it corresponds with May 24 – the Day of the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian alphabet, education and culture, and of Slavic literature, and in its latest editions it is dedicated to important anniversaries. This paper briefly presents the history and concept of the competition and the perspectives that this initiative opened for the development of Bulgarian studies in Greece. Special attention is paid to the contest entitled “Greece in Bulgarian literature”, dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution of 1821.
