Summary/Abstract: This article focuses on the relationship between flow state, foreign language learning and game design. The Flow theory is a theoretical perspective of student learning that integrated motivation, emotion and cognition. This theory offers a useful framework for evaluating language learning activities. The article identifies the importance of separating the task from the artifact within a computer-mediated environment and focuses on some of the components of the PAT (person–artefact–task) model, as well as the interactions of these components. The characteristics of the components are considered in terms of early foreign language learning using computer didactic games.
