Summary/Abstract: Based on the attitudes of young Serbian intellectuals about their own nation and members of other national communities, we tried to examine the connection between national and religious identity. We have witnessed that in the previous period in Serbia, church dignitaries often emphasized religion as a characteristic of an ethnic group, which inevitably had an impact on the attitudes of believers. Theorists, however, point out the difference between traditional and current religiosity, so we assumed that traditional religiosity, as the cultural basis of the nation, is associated with a stronger national identity, while current religiosity is characterized by a stronger connection with the religious community and, thus, a weaker national identification.
