Summary/Abstract: Juvenile justice and the concept of restorative justice are closely related to the provision of conditions for the proper psycho-social development of juvenile offenders, who are treated differently in the legal process compared to adult offenders. Restorative justice is a concept that enables dialogue between the offender and the victim, with a focus on repairing harm rather than punishment, thus preventing the stigmatization of juvenile offenders. This paper highlights mediation as the main method of establishing dialogue between the offender and the victim — a process in which a third neutral party (the mediator) helps the conflicting sides reach a common solution that satisfies all parties involved, which is the essence of mediation. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to present the significance of special treatment of juveniles within the justice system, with reference to the legal framework in the Republic of Srpska, introduce the concept of restorative justice, and explore the role and definition of mediation within this approach.
