Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this report is to examine the economic situation in recent years and to underline its influence on the development of the world economy and the economy of the leading countries – USA, China, EU. The interrelationship between the economic and non-economic environmental factors that have the greatest impact on economic activity in the EU will be sought with an emphasis on the German economy and its industrial production. The changes that have occurred in the structure of industrial production in the EU as a general and by various subgroups will be traced. The reasons for the loss of industrial competitiveness will be pointed out and possible solutions will be sought for the return of the lost positions at the international markets. An author's forecast will be made for the future dynamic development of the economic situation and the industrial production in the EU in the short term.
