Summary/Abstract: Socio-economic relations between Japan and Russia often remain in the shadow of the relations between the USA and Russia, or between the West as a group and Russia. At the same time, these are important relations for both countries and for the relationships with other leading economies - EU, the USA and China. In the work presented, subject of study is trade and economic relations between the two countries in a time period when the best results and the highest values in bilateral trade are achieved. Mutually beneficial relations have been developed in the fields of commerce, science and technology. During the period under review, policymakers in Japan and to some extent in Russia, put political differences aside and developed bilateral trade relations, driven mainly by economic benefits for both countries.
