Summary/Abstract: The present work aims to delineate the discipline of Animal Studies in the humanistdiscourse and call the attention of readers to the development of social conscience inthe post-anthropocentric context. The names of the mentioned theorists date backto antiquity and reach the present time, highlighting the different perspectives onthe animal question, perpetuated in philosophy over the centuries. Will be introduceda key concept for this field of research, namely speciesism, the term fixed bythe Australian ethicist, Peter Singer. In the light of the presented theories, will beanalyzed the novel by the Polish Nobel Prize winner, Olga Tokarczuk – Drive yourplow over the bones of the dead – and her approach to the current social attitudestowards non-human animals, as well as to its status as sentient beings.
