Summary/Abstract: The poem Ιθακη (1911) is one of the most translated texts by Constantine P. Kavafy. Its Polish translations form a twelve-part collection by six translators. A chronological comparison shows that the translations differ, among other, by the means used to translate the first word of the source text – the conjunction σα – which can be used in the temporal or (more rarely) the conditional sense. The earlier versions explore the latter option, while the most recent translations – created after the year 2000 – adapt the former, temporal and iterative one. The difference can be meaningful for the interpretation of the whole poem. In the article’s conclusions the possible reasons for that change are debated.
