Summary/Abstract: The novel Os Naufragios de Camoes (2016) is about the story of life and work of Camőes and another counter-epic, a contract metafictional literary work, intertextual, dialogic and post-modern. A dialogue is contrived with the legacy of the history of Portugal, Camőes, and The Orient and the herd of protagonists, being Mário Cláudio one of them. We witness a novel of the so-called “return of caravels”, in which the contemporary Author disputes the cultural, historic and biographical meaning of The Lusiads (Os Lusiadas 1572) and of the myth of the epic Poet’s life, within his present quality of the master of anti-colonial literature, followed by some other Portuguese writers. The antique heroes of The Overseas: kings, navigators, writers and adventurers come back hurt badly and dispirited to the former homeland; the epic poem by Luís de Camőes is only a someone else´s invention. The fiction surpasses history and research. The novel in focus incorporates various intertextual and counter-ideological games.
