Summary/Abstract: In this paper, I analyse how contiguous and often opposing communication patterns shape pupils’ linguistic manifestations in solving communication problems. The pupils’ eclectic writings show a mingling of patterns. The linguistic formation of the texts evince that pupils fulfil the expectations of the language code promoted by the school when they focus on respecting the language norms. However, their orientation towards the norms of style is heavily affected by the altered aesthetic norms and mode of their immediate surroundings.
