Due to its attractiveness, it has become a destination for numerous tourist visits and this has caused it to struggle with the phenomenon of overtourism in recent years. The aim of the article is to show the scale of this problem and its impact on the living conditions of the local community and the state of its natural environment. - Author(s):Mariusz Miedziński
- Language:Polish
- Subject(s):Geography, Regional studies, Tourism
- Page Range:37-55
- No. of Pages:19
- Keywords:health; resort; city; urban resilience; city functions; Kołobrzeg
- Summary/Abstract:The aim of the work is to determine the current, post-pandemic, level of urban resilience of Kołobrzeg in relation to the scale of development of the largest Polish health resort. It uses the author’s model of an adaptive cycle of urban resilience with reference to the threshold tourist area life cycle (TTALC). The use of TTALC and the adaptive cycle model in the context of urban resilience was tested with a positive result for challenges generated by AI, thus confirming the process of strengthening Kołobrzeg’s resilience. The challenges provided by AI indicated the actual state of transition of Kołobrzeg from the phase of conservation (K), stabilization through the phase of release (Ω), disturbance to the phase of reorganization (α), to innovation in the adaptive cycle in the context of urban resilience. These activities are directly related to crossing a sequence of development thresholds, and in particular threshold V, meaning the actual changes to the administrative boundaries of the city which will enable the development of new socio-economic functions and increase the level of urban resilience. In this, the specific case of a large health resort, resilience to crisis or shock situations and the ability to regenerate, depends on cooperation, social participation, trust and the need to convince residents of the sense of meeting large scale challenges.

- Author(s):Jolanta Jakóbczyk-Gryszkiewicz
- Language:Polish
- Subject(s):Geography, Regional studies, Tourism
- Page Range:57-79
- No. of Pages:23
- Keywords:Łódź; urban space; degradation; transformation; revitalization; renaturalization; tourist attractiveness
- Summary/Abstract:The work presents the most interesting examples of the revitalization of 19th century urban space in Łódź and its open spaces. The historic factories, as well as its residential buildings, were significantly degraded in the 1990s after the collapse of the city’s leading textile industry. At the beginning of the 21st century, the city government using EU funds, and private investors including foreign companies, began its large-scale revitalization, preserving the architecture of the buildings and introducing new functions to these areas – mainly services – including tourism, housing and communication. The scale of these activities, especially in post-industrial areas, is large and, as in the case of the newly established Manufaktura centre, the largest even in Europe. The aim of the study was to indicate that the revitalized post-industrial, residential and natural areas have become attractive for tourists and are a kind of showcase for modern Łódź.

- Keywords:Olsztyn; thanatourism; sightseeing inventory; memorials; trail
- Summary/Abstract:The article analyses opportunities for developing thanatourism around Olsztyn, pointing out numerous memorials, war cemeteries and monuments commemorating the victims of armed conflicts, which could be attractive destinations for thanatourists. The aim of the research was to identify sites with thanatourism potential and to develop a concept of a trail including historical and cultural sites of remembrance. The study, based on historical resources and academic publications, shows the wealth of historical cemeteries and places of remembrance in the city, such as the former Evangelical cemetery, Bet Tahara with its now defunct Jewish cemetery, and war cemeteries from both world wars. The results of the analysis highlight the potential of Olsztyn as a thanatourist location. A comparison was also made between Olsztyn’s memorial sites and examples of thanatourism from other regions of the world, emphasizing the unique aspects of local cultural heritage.

(Demonstrating social attitudes and tourism – reflections on the multi-aspect nature of connections)
- Author(s):Dagmara Sójka
- Language:Polish
- Subject(s):Geography, Regional studies, Tourism
- Page Range:137-145
- No. of Pages:9
- Keywords:demonstration; social attitudes; overtourism; mass tourism; sustainable tourism
- Summary/Abstract:The aim of this paper is to present the issue of demonstrating social attitudes in the context of tourism. The author shares her research observations on the interrelationship of the two issues. This text does not represent a typical analysis of research results, but is devoted to subjective reflections on the areas where demonstrating is combined with tourism and where they influence each other. The paper does not constitute an in-depth analysis of the themes identified but provides directions for further inquiry. The formulation of this text was inspired by Ludwig Wittgenstein’s approach, which avoids quotations and focuses on presenting his own individual reflections (Wittgenstein, 2012). This way of considering the subject matter discussed, given the specific framing of the problem, is, in the author’s opinion, the most accurate.
