Summary/Abstract: The importance of women’s full and effective participation in the security sector, including in small arms and light weapons (SALW) control, is being increasingly recognised within the broader efforts to promote sustained peace, security, and gender equality. This recognition is reflected in the growing body of international, regional, and jurisdictional normative frameworks that aim to enhance the genderresponsiveness of SALW control. Governments are also progressively called upon to promote women’s full, equal, meaningful, and effective participation in SALW control and address the persistent barriers to such participation and representation in this field. The Western Balkans (WB) SALW Control Roadmap and SALW control strategies and action plans adopted across the region also prioritise their full participation.
