Summary/Abstract: The Europe 2020 strategy is not only important for EU member states, but also represents a significant potential for candidate states and potential candidates for EU membership. For this reason, the European Movement in Serbia, with the support of the Foundation for an Open Society and the Delegation of the European Union in the Republic of Serbia, prepared the second updated edition of the Guide to the Europe 2020 strategy, so that the entire local public would be familiar with the priorities, instruments and mechanisms for implementing and monitoring the implementation of the EU 2020 strategy. In addition to the presentation of the strategic document and the progress of the EU member states in relation to the defined goals of the Europe 2020 strategy, the Guide before you presents the situation in Serbia by areas covered by the strategy, possible and necessary steps in the reform process in order to bring Serbia closer to the defined goals of the strategy, as well as a special presentation of the role of local self-governments in the strategy implementation process. In the absence of an adequate domestic strategic framework and negotiations with the EU, the Europe 2020 strategic framework is of equal importance for Serbia as it is for the EU member states, therefore the process of reforms that Serbia needs to implement should be in accordance with the goals of the strategy. In addition, the experience of the member states in the implementation of the strategy and the quality of that process will largely determine the context in which Serbia will function the moment it becomes a member of the EU, but it will also contribute to the improvement of the process of planning and implementing the necessary reforms in the European integration process of the Republic of Serbia.
