The polysemy of the proposition auf from the cognitive point of view

Summary/Abstract: This article discusses the semantics of the dative construction with the preposition auf in aspect of the guiding principles within the cognitive semantics. The aim of the analysis is to show diverse variants of use of the preposition auf, to establish the meanings from the point of view of the Principled Polysemy Model of Tyler/Evans, to identify the protoscene and to reconstruct the semantic network. The starting point of the analysis is the assumption that the protoscene which is based on the daily sensomotor experience, is the conceptual base for other meanings and their motivations.
