Summary/Abstract: Modern scholarly discourse devoted to the role of Roman law became the basis for researching the significance of Roman “legacy” in the words of Romanists of the Second Polish Republic. The purpose of this article is to examine the significance of Romanist thought in shaping the legal culture of Interwar Poland. In the conclusions, the author states that reflection on the significance of “legacy” of the Roman thought intensified in connection with the work on the codification of private law and a reflection on patriotic education. Polish Romanists’ highlighting the importance of the “legacy” of Rome was an important factor in shaping legal awareness of the Second Polish Republic.
