Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to show the most important legal changes that accompanied the liquidation of the Government Protection Bureau and the establishment of the State Protection Service in its place. An introductory element is an indication of the historical outline and evolution of the institution of protection of the most important people in the country. An important starting point for consideration is the indication of the basic premises and arguments related to the desire to liquidate the previously functioning Government Protection Bureau and the establishment of the State Protection Service in its place. In the text, the author compared the shape of the functioning of the State Protection Service and the previously functioning Government Protection Bureau. Particular attention was also paid to changes in the tasks performed by officers and changes in the organizational level of the institution. An additional element is the analysis of the records of documents relating to the report on the functioning of the State Protection Service, as well as those related to the determination of the future objectives of the institution’s activities. Also, the article also contains conclusions drawn as a result of the audit of the Supreme Audit Office in connection with the functioning of the service. The summarizing element is an attempt to decide whether the legal changes in the present case in question were correct and whether the functioning of the institution could have been otherwise modified.
