Summary/Abstract: The text focuses on humour within the context of foreign language teaching. It starts with chosen definitions of humour and related phenomena and moves on to present areas and types of relationships that constitute a lesson. Humour can originate in all of them. Beneficial effects and possible problems resulting from using humour for educational purposes are further analysed. The text aims to detect potential threats linked to humour that might appear in previously described relationships. Finally, the article elaborates solutions and ways to counteract the determined threats to raise teachers’ awareness of using humour prudently during lessons to enhance their effectiveness.
