Summary/Abstract: Important of them is the Vienna Institute. In the paper the author primarily orientates on the re- search of this institute, which has twice as many students as the other two institutes. Research at the Vienna Institute in the field of journalism focuses on the processes of public (media) mediated communication and its infrastructural conditions. This includes, in a comparative perspective, media systems, media organizations and media governance (people involved, processes and forms of the mediation of interests), history of media and communication (history of journalism), informative and entertaining media content, their use and effects, or on a wider scale a conflict and crisis communication.
