Summary/Abstract: Contemporary economic policies derive from mainstream economics. The models which describe the effects of economic policy on the economy are based on those mainstream assumptions concerning the behaviours of markets, individuals and decision makers in general. A number of those assumptions, however, do not prove correct in reality. Attempts to explain the real market behaviours and explore the motives behind individual entities’ decisions have been recently made by means of experiments carried out within experimental economics and neuroeconomics. The aim of the paper is to present the two developing fields of economics, their research methods and the applicability of their findings to the contemporary economic policy.
