Summary/Abstract: Increase of the militaries’ professionalism is, according to the Samuel P. Huntington writings, the way to achieve objective civil control, meaning the way to assure political neutrality of the officers. It is essential for this professionalism to be clearly defined in order to avoid transforming it into a dead word, an empty box, repeated constantly during the official meetings. This paper is introducing a view on the military profession in Romania, noticing significant differences between the theories promoted by different famous authors, the related official documents and the actual perception of certain active officers on this concept. The necessity of a serious analysis regarding the characteristics of the military professionalism is outlined aiming to achieve the civil objective control.
