Summary/Abstract: The anthroponyms of the Volyne nobility were collected from the military documents of the 16th century Grand Duchy of Lithuania. 796 names of men were found. The mixed type is the most popular among them (87,3%). There are very few names without potential surnames (7,9%), as well as the ones containing only potential surnames (4,8%). The length of men’s names is 1–4 members. Two member names prevail (81,8%), less numerous are anthroponyms consisting of only one member (12,6%), three member names comprise 5,5%, and four-member names are very rare (0,1%).The suffix –sk– is found in 66,2% of male anthroponyms and only 19,2% of them have a patronymic. Thus, the characteristic feature of the Volyne nobility anthroponyms is suffix –sk–, whereas in other regions of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania patronyms prevail.Male names, which have members explaining anthroponyms by means of common words, comprise 40,2%. Here the words characterising the nobility (88,8%), job definition (9,5%), nationality (1,5%), family status or kinship (0,3%) prevail. 95,2% of male names include Christian name.The number of female names is 72. The most popular among them are the anthroponyms with potential surnames (94,4%). Mixed anthroponyms are scarce (5,6%). Anthroponyms without potential surnames were not recorded. The length of female anthroponyms is 1–3 members. Two member names prevail (69,4%), less numerous are one member anthroponyms (26,4%), and there are few three member names (4,2%).Common words explaining proper names are found in 63,9% of female anthroponyms. The nobility reference occurs in 95,8% of names. Very few anthroponyms include family status or kinship (4,2%). Job or nationality references were not recorded. Christian name is not usually recorded (only 5,6%) in the index of proper names of Volyne females.The most popular male names: 1. Name + –sk– type proper name – 57,8% (460). 2. Name + patronymic – 14,1% (112). 3. Name + proper name which is not the suffix derivative – 9,7% (77). 4. Name – 7,9% (63). 5. –sk– type proper name – 4,4% (35). 6. Name + patronymic + –sk– type proper name – 2,9% (23). 7. Name + patronymic + proper name which is not the suffix derivative – 1,3% (10). 8. Name + proper name which is not the suffix derivative + –sk– type proper name – 0,7% (6).The most popular female names: 1. Name + –овая /–евая derivative + –sk– type proper name – 44,4% (32). 2-3. –sk– type proper name – 12,5% (9). 2-3. Two suffix–овая /–евая derivatives – 12,5% (9). 4. –овая /–евая suffix derivative – 9,7% (7). 5. –овая /–евая suffix derivative + suffix –иная derivatives – 4,2% (3). 6-7. Suffix –иная derivatives – 2,8% (2). 6-7. Suffix –овая /–евая derivatives + the genitive of male patronymic – 2,8% (2).
