Summary/Abstract: From the last period of the Ottoman Empire to the early Republican period, musical synthesis studies, which are results of combining the technic of the Western music with Turkish music, were the heralds of the Anatolian pop-rock genre which emerged in the 1960s. Anatolian pop-rock is a genre which includes the blend of traditional Turkish folk music’s melodic motifs, rhythmic motifs, and its instruments with Western music’s technic and instruments. It is the synthesis of Anatolian and Western music cultures. In this popular music genre, traces of the postmodern perspective, that is, back to the past, are seen. However, the postmodern view does not mean to stay in the past and be closed to innovations with a protective approach. It has a tendency that can relate between the past and the present. Looking back, in other words, looking at the past and tradition is not entirely giving up contemporary techniques. On the contrary, it is the melting of all these innovations with the elements of the past, that is, by contrasts. The concept of authenticity, which is used to analyze these and similar interactions or changes in music, stands before us as a functional tool. As a subjective concept, authenticity relates to the importance attributed by individuals. In other words, it is thought to be a concept of value attributed to itself by people rather than the properties of objects. In this study, with the lyrics, sound and non-musical elements the authenticity criteria of sample inventive works of the 60s- 70s in the Anatolian pop-rock music genre were evaluated in this regard. Thus, a contemporary interpretation of traditional performance has been formed by blending Western popular musical elements (harmony, rhythm, and musical instruments) with elements of folk songs.
