Summary/Abstract: The article provides lexical, semantic, contextual, and exegetical analysis of three important Qur’anic words: jihād, harb, and qital. It examines both their similarities and distinctive features in an attempt to answer the question of whether each of these words are synonyms or whether they actually retain their semantic distinctiveness. One of the conclusions is that the Qur’anic verses containing the words jihād, ḥarb and qitāl should be read, understood, and interpreted contextually.
