Semantic Analysis of the Word nafs in the Qur’an

Summary/Abstract: In this paper, the author provides a semantic analysis of the use of the word nafs in the Qur’an on the basis of: a) works on semantic lexicology of the Qur’an; b) basic comments on the Qur’an; c) the latest critical studies in the field of tefsir, dealing specifically with examination of contextual meanings of polysemic and homonymic words in the Qur’an; and d) other contemporary studies dealing with the meaning of the word nafs in the Qur’an.
