INVESTIGATION OF THE PERSONAL PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES OF CANDIDATE TEACHERS WITH THE PRE-SERVICE TRAINING

Summary/Abstract: One of the most important factors in increasing the quality of teachers is to increase the quality of pre-service education. It is possible to achieve such a quality in education faculties with a successful faculty staff; by the effective implementation of education programs and by providing adequate application opportunities to teacher candidates. Personal professional competence is the knowledge and skills acquired as a result of the individual's personal efforts; although it has a relationship with pre-service training; mostly during the period of an individual's profession. In a way; it is a person's self-competence in professional terms. These two concepts are of particular importance in the successful performance of a teacher's job. The aim of this study is to reveal the perceptions of prospective teachers regarding pre-service education and their personal professional competencies. Relational scanning model was used in the research. In the study; Personal-Professional Competencies Perception Scale developed by Kazu and Demiralp (2017) and the Teacher Perception Scale on the Competence of Pre-Service Education by Kozikoğlu and Senemoğlu (2018) were used. The research universe consists of prospective teachers who started to work in the province of Şırnak in the 2019-2020 academic year. stratification and random sampling method was used in the study. Parametric tests were used because the data of the study showed normal distribution. According to the findings of the research; while the perceptions of prospective teachers about their pre-service education are at a good level; it was observed that their perception of their personal professional competencies is insufficient. Teachers' opinions differ according to the variables of being a field teacher and being a member of a union; but they do not differ significantly according to other variables. A high level inverse relationship was found between the prospective teachers' perceptions of their pre-service training and their perceptions of their personal professional competencies. The finding was interpreted as if the quality of pre-service training of prospective teachers is increased; their personal professional competence needs will decrease. It has been suggested to take measures to increase the personal professional competencies of teachers.
