Summary/Abstract: International Property Rights Index (IPRI), developed by the Property Rights Alliance, measures the protection of physical and intellectual property in the world. The results are based on the country’s performance in three different areas: Legal and Political Environment (LP), Physical Property Rights (PPR), and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). The Index shows the impact of property rights protection on the economic well-being. Countries are ranked in five groups (quintiles) depending of their results (maximum 10 points). The top 20% of the countries have more than 16 times higher per capita income than the bottom 20% of the countries in 2019. The analysis shows that property rights protection leads to more entrepreneurship, lower inequality, higher economic freedom, more developed civil society, and higher security. Bulgaria ranks 61-st in 2019 IPRI out of 129 countries with a score of 5.569 points.
