The place of the Opoczno dialect in the local press (the example of Kielce’s monthly “Przemiany”

Summary/Abstract: The local press is hardly ever used for dialectological studies. Press texts from the Kielcemonthly “Przemiany”; 1970–1989 can be a valuable source of language material for boththe study of the language system of the Opoczno dialect and the dialect lexicon. They arerepresented by 26 chats from the Opoczno area and Opoczno proverbs. For the purpose ofthis article, I have extracted dialect vocabulary – 61 words from chats – and compared themwith dictionary materials from other sources of Polish dialect lexicography: a collection ofK. Dejna’s folk vocabulary, Słownik gwar małopolskich (Glossary of Little Poland dialects),Słownik gwary opoczyńskiej (Glossary of Opoczno dialects), the alphabetical index of wordsfrom the dictionary Słownik polskich gwar (Dictionary of Polish dialects). The research resultsshow differences in the resources of this lexicon in the sources listed. They confirm theusefullness of press materials for lexicographic research.
