Summary/Abstract: The functions of dreams in literature are among the most diverse and can be debated according to special cases, but in each case the relationship between them and narrative is evident. In the case of M. Camaj's "Circles" (“Rrathë”), one of the most interesting elements of his prose is related to the extension of the "hesitation" created to intentionally confuse the boundaries between dream, reality, hallucination, memory, illusion. The strong connection of the individual with its past is expressed through the relationship of the rational with the intuitive and the spiritual. At the point where the empirical opens the way for the dreams and other forms of creation; the inner need for the sacred world at risk of modernity arises even more. The pursuit of human individuality instead of the intimidating uniformity of the new era is another reason why Camaj's prose often passes through the "dark" areas of the unconscious and the dreams become a way of refusing the spiritual apathy of the new man. The dream in the "Circles" is not subject to a simplistic psychoanalysis that sees it as an expression of unwanted or impossible desires; it is more than that, a reflection on man's consciousness and an exploration of conscience. In this initial state, much of the hidden human depth is revealed, not that depth of the specific historical person, or the modern psychological man, but of the archetype as a character. Camaj's prose builds this area of chaos with sophisticated tools, proceedings, without being schematic regarding the literary choices. In this paper, we will analyze the principles, the literary tools of the "Circles", and we will also try to interpret their function, in the most representative cases, without separating them from the whole novel and the author’s poetics.
