Summary/Abstract: The article examines the problem of the author‘s death, presented through the prism of the processes of creating and playing video games with mythological elements. Instead of the death that Roland Barthes writes about in his theory of the author‘s death, the collective author of the video games gains immortality provided by the constantly available opportunity to recreate the game story through playing. The author and the player merge into one whole – at the moment of playing, the player chooses one of the moves invented by the author, and in this way empathizes with the creation of the story itself. The text makes a parallel between the authorship of the written text and the shared authorship hidden ‘behind the scenes of the game‘s creation. The text also presents the story of the video game Assasin’s creed because of the particularly interesting way of merging between an author, a player and a character in the course of the story as well as the presence of mixed historical and mythological elements in the plot.
