The Quest for a Language of the Metriotes: Duiliu Zamfirescu’s Translations of Leopardi

Summary/Abstract: The present work intends to analyze the linguistic characteristics of the translations of Leopardi's Canti by the Romanian poet Duiliu Zamfirescu. In the first part of the work, we will focus on the nature of Zamfirescu's interest towards the classicism of the great Italian poet and, in the second part, we will propose an analysis of the lexical, syntactic and stylistic elements of the translations. Finally, the main theme of our study is to individuate the meaning of the research of a stylistic metriotes in the context of the Romanian poetry in the last decades of 19th century.
