ORIGINS AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE EUROPEAN POLICE COOPERATION

Summary/Abstract: Reason(s) for writing and research problem(s): The paper examines how and under what conditions the practices of international police cooperation in Europe have originated and developed, especially in the context of broader social, political, economic and other changes. Aims of the paper (scientific and/or social): To describe how modern forms of police cooperation in Europe originated and function today, and explain the factors that led to the development. Methodology/Design: Meta-analytical approach, analyzing a large number of references and current sources in the field of international relations, EU law, international criminal law, criminology and criminal justice. Research/paper limitations: The paper is based on a review of research, and typically for this type of research offers only some perspectives on possible interpretations of the current developments of police cooperation practices in Europe. Results/Findings: Police co-operation in Europe has a long and rich history, and over a long period of time of various police co-operation initiatives, the continuity and development of the legal framework and practices of co-operation has been noticeable. General conclusion: Due to a number of historical, political and wider social processes, Europe is an authentic source for the emergence and development of very important mechanisms of international police cooperation that are further developing. Research/paper validity: The paper has a scientific role and significance, both with the aim of developing and accepting new knowledge, and critically questioning and adapting existing knowledge about the emergence and development of international police cooperation.
