Summary/Abstract: The author discussed the etymology of few words used in Polish criminal jargon,from the 19th century until the interwar period. These words belong to the category „theft ofpoultry”. In this text the author pesented the lexemes listed in the oldest Polish sociolecticaldictionaries, e.g.: artyleria, huzar, ślepucha, mróz, pejsak, kurarz, piechociarz. Mainly presentedwords didn’t survive, today they aren’t appearing in non-standard dialect. This article filled thegap in the research on the origin some jargon words. The text is inviting to join a discussion;some observations of the author are provoking to debate.
